Is It Time To Service Your Mechanical Watch?
Posted on October 4, 2019
Similar to a high-performance sports car, your mechanical watch needs to be serviced regularly. Tuning up your watch – giving it a complete “overhaul” is important to maintaining your timepiece.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL?
We recommend a preventative maintenance service once a year, and a complete overhaul every 4-5 years. Fine watches require care and maintenance and the frequency depends on the model, climate, and conditions of use.
While your watch is with us, our Certified Master Technicians will dedicate their attention and energy to its maintenance.
WHAT ARE SOME SIGNS YOUR WATCH NEEDS SERVICE?
A few indicators that an expert should examine your watch include:
*Moisture in the case
*The second hand skips several seconds
*You hear a rattle inside the case or the dial/hands seem loose
*Your watch is running a few seconds faster or slower each day
WHAT DOES A FULL SERVICE INCLUDE?
– Movement is removed from watch case, cleaned in solvent to remove old congealed lubrication, all parts are then evaluated for wear and integrity
– Worn parts and seals are replaced
– Watch case and bracelets are restored to factory finish
– Water and pressure resistance are tested
– After assembly, all watches are put through rigorous testing to ensure proper regulation of time
